    Teaching: A Profound Calling

Teaching: Not Just a Job, but a Calling

Teaching is a noble profession that extends far beyond the boundaries of a mere job. It requires a deep passion for learning, a genuine desire to make a positive impact on young minds, and a commitment to shaping the future generation. Being a teacher is a calling, a vocation that goes beyond the classroom walls.

Below are some tips on how you can fully embrace this calling and make a lasting difference in the lives of your students.

    A. Cultivate a Growth Mindset: Embracing teaching as a calling begins with a mindset that recognizes the potential for growth in both students and oneself. Believe that every child has unique abilities and gifts waiting to be nurtured. Continuously seek opportunities to learn and grow as an educator, exploring new teaching strategies, attending professional development workshops, and engaging in reflective practices. Remember, the more you learn, the better equipped you’ll be to inspire your students.

    B. Build Meaningful Relationships: Education is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about building meaningful connections with your students. Take the time to understand their interests, strengths, and challenges. Show genuine care and empathy, and be a source of support for their emotional well-being. By creating a safe and inclusive environment, you’ll foster a sense of belonging that allows students to thrive academically and personally.

    C. Inspire a Love for Learning: Encourage curiosity and a thirst for knowledge in your students. Spark their imagination by making your lessons engaging, relevant, and interactive. Incorporate real-world examples and encourage critical thinking. Celebrate their achievements and provide constructive feedback to fuel their growth. By instilling a love for learning, you’ll ignite a lifelong passion for education.

    D. Adapt to Individual Needs: Recognize that each student is unique, with different learning styles and abilities. Tailor your teaching approach to meet individual needs, differentiating instruction to accommodate diverse learners. Be flexible and open-minded, embracing the opportunity to adapt and modify your teaching strategies. This inclusive mindset ensures that every student receives the support necessary to reach their full potential.

    E. Be a Lifelong Learner: Embrace the idea that teaching is a continuous journey of learning. Seek inspiration from other educators, collaborate with colleagues, and participate in professional learning communities. Stay informed about current educational research, trends, and best practices. A commitment to lifelong learning not only enhances your teaching skills but also models the importance of growth and development for your students.

    F. Impact Lives Beyond Academics: As a teacher, you have the power to shape not only your students’ academic abilities but also their character and values. Instill in them a sense of empathy, respect, and responsibility. Teach them the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and resilience. Encourage them to become active members of their communities and advocates for positive change. Teach them to also love God and respect constituted authorities. By nurturing well-rounded individuals, you’re contributing to a better society.

    G. Seek Support and Self-Care: Teaching is a demanding profession that requires physical and emotional energy. Remember to take care of yourself to avoid burnout. Seek support from colleagues, administrators, and professional networks. Prioritize self-care practices that rejuvenate your mind and body, such as exercise, hobbies, and spending time with loved ones. By taking care of yourself, you’ll be better equipped to provide the support and guidance your students need.Teaching is indeed a calling that requires dedication, passion, and a genuine love for the learning process. By embracing this calling and following these tips, you can create an educational experience that extends far beyond textbooks and exams. You have the power to inspire, empower, and shape the lives of your students, and
    in
doing so, you contribute to the betterment of society as a whole. Remember, the impact of a teacher extends far beyond the confines of the classroom.

:H. Embrace Diversity and Inclusion: Create an inclusive classroom environment that celebrates diversity and promotes understanding among students. Respect and value cultural, racial, and socio-economic differences. Foster an environment where every student feels seen, heard, and appreciated. By embracing diversity, you’ll create a space where students learn to appreciate and respect one another, fostering a sense of unity and global citizenship.

    I. Encourage Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Equip your students with the skills they need to navigate an ever-changing world. Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. Teach them to analyze information, question assumptions, and develop well-reasoned arguments. By fostering these skills, you empower your students to become active participants in society, capable of tackling complex challenges and making informed decisions.

    J. Stay Engaged with Parents and Guardians: Recognize that education is a partnership between teachers, students, and parents or guardians. Actively engage parents in their child’s education by maintaining open lines of communication. Share regular updates on their child’s progress and involve them in decision-making processes. Collaborate on strategies that support their child’s learning and development. By working together, you create a strong support system that maximizes student success.

    K. Promote a Love for Reading: Instill a love for reading by exposing your students to a wide range of literature and genres. Set aside dedicated time for independent reading and create a classroom library that reflects the diverse interests and backgrounds of your students. Encourage discussions and book clubs to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of literature. By nurturing a love for reading, you open doors to endless possibilities and lifelong learning.

    L. Lead by Example: As a teacher, you are not only an educator but also a role model. Demonstrate the qualities and values you hope to instill in your students. Model kindness, integrity, and perseverance. Show a passion for learning and a commitment to personal growth. By leading by example, you inspire your students to become their best selves and embrace their own calling to make a positive impact on the world.

In conclusion, teaching is more than just a job; it is a calling that requires dedication, passion, and continuous learning. By cultivating a growth mindset, building meaningful relationships, inspiring a love for learning, adapting to individual needs, impacting lives beyond academics, seeking support and self-care, embracing diversity and inclusion, encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving, staying engaged with parents or guardians, promoting a love for reading, and leading by example, teachers can fully embrace their calling and create a lasting impact on the lives of their students. Remember, you have the power to shape the future, one student at a time.

    PROJECT-BASED LEARNING 1.0

This Online Project-Based Training is organized by Topflighter Academy.

John Dewey once said, ‘If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow.’ The children of the 21st Century need not to be taught as children in the previous generations.

This training is aimed at equipping educators with the knowledge needed to make teaching fun, engaging and exciting to the learners. Project-Based Learning can’t be taken out of the classroom if we truly want to have an engaging class, hence the need to attend this online event.

It is also expedient to note that the children of the 21st Century are global citizens and as such, their educators need to be equipped too with the needed knowledge and facilities. During this training, the UN SDGs will be fully discussed and highlighted in order to assist in the necessary knowledge to raise global citizens who will solve problems locally, globally and digitally.

My journey as an Empatico Kindness Fellow

You might be wondering what Empatico is all about?

Empatico is a free tool for teachers to connect their classroom with other classrooms around the world through live video and activities designed to foster meaningful connections among students.

Empatico empowers teachers and students to explore the world through experiences that spark curiosity, kindness, and empathy.

“Kindness is the root of all good things!”

I am privileged to be a part of this year kindness week and an Empatico Kindness Champion Fellow. So far since I was nominated to be a fellow, I have been able to create a kindness council in my class where we discuss on strategies on how to show kindness to ourselves, the community and the world at large. My pupils came with individual definition on what kindness means to them.

One of the Empatico Skills is Respectful Communication which I introduced to them and since then, they won’t stop using it and correct each other whenever they err. Together, we came up with an idea on spreading kindness in our world and community by visiting a rehabilitation center. While preparing for the visit, one of my kids exclaimed: I am so glad to be in grade six! ( this is a child whose parents wanted him to skip grade six to the college)

I am so elated to be a part of this; spreading kindness and empathy in my world. I believe that “a little act of kindness can change the world! “

Big thanks to Empatico and the team!
